Summary

I am a Wireless Systems Engineer at Google. Before joining Google, I was at Qualcomm (Corporate R&D) in San Diego and, before that, I received my Ph.D. in electrical engineering from The University of Texas at Austin in May 2013. At UT, I was fortunate to be part of the Wireless Networking and Communications Group (WNCG) and to have worked with Prof. Robert W. Heath, Jr. My doctoral dissertation was titled "Interference Alignment from Theory to Practice". I interned at the University of California, Berkeley in the Summer of 2007 and at Samsung Electronics in the Summers of 2011 and 2012. 

My research interests are in the broad area of network sciences, signal processing and information theory. In the context of wireless communication, my interests are in MIMO systems, interference management, and mmWave communication.

    • Developed multimode precoding algorithm for millimeter wave MIMO systems with special focus on the hardware constraints of practical millimeter wave transceivers.
    • Developed open loop MIMO transmission strategies based on combined RF/baseband precoder cycling for millimeter wave MIMO systems 
  • Engineering R&D Intern   (May ’11 - August ’11)   
    • Analyzed the performance of various precoding strategies in millimeter wave single and multi-user networks with large antenna  arrays in realistic fading channels.
    • Developed novel low-complexity precoding strategies for the millimeter wave single user channel. The proposed algorithms build on concepts in MIMO signal processing, multi-objective optimization, and sparse recovery.

  • Graduate Research Assistant   (September ’08 - May '13)
    • Advisor: Prof. Robert W. Heath Jr. 
    • Implemented a multi-user software-defined MIMO-OFDM testbed used to test concepts such as interference alignment in realistic propagation environments.
    • Developed low-overhead feedback strategies for MIMO interference networks. Examined the practical limits of physical layer cooperation in wireless systems with a focus on mobility, signaling overhead, and modern network infrastructure.
    • Characterized the performance of dense millimeter wave access networks and developed channel estimation and beamforming algorithms for practical millimeter wave systems.
  • Teaching Assistant   (Fall ’08 and ’09)
    • Supervisor: Prof. Robert W. Heath Jr. 
    • Worked as a teaching assistant for the course Wireless Communication Lab
    • Instructed lab sessions, corrected assignments, corrected exams, and held office hours. The lab aims at implementing a full wireless communication link using LabView and software defined radio hardware from National Instruments.

  • Intern   (June ’07 - September ’07)
    • Supervised by: California Center for Innovative Transportation 
    • Researched WiMax networks and worked on deploying and testing the research centers new WiMax network at the Berkeley Highway Lab.
    • Conducted a feasibility study on implementing new networking protocols (NTCIP) on embedded systems. This is required by new transportation network standards to increase interoperability. Finally, implemented several protocols to ensure backward compatibility of new hardware with existing equipment that can not be easily phased out.
